Microsoft Excel, name range is important when you implement any formula. You can give a human-readable name to a single cell or a range of cells, and refer to those cells by name rather than by reference.

By using the names feature, you can make your formulas much easier to understand. You can define a name for a cell range, function, constant, or table. Once you adopt the practice of using names in your workbook, you can easily update, and manage these names.

This named range is two systems Static Named Range and a dynamic name range.

Static Named Range gives the Excel users an opportunity to provide names to a specific cell, cells (a defined range of cells), formula, or constant value as a fixed range. Named ranges are actually a pretty cool feature. They can make formulas a lot easier to create, read, and maintain.

Purpose of Static Name Range:

Creating Excel formulas is easier & understandable because you can paste a cell or range name into a  formula.

Before you create a named range some rules must be maintained:

1.  The first character of a name must be one of the following characters:

      Letter, underscore (_), backslash (\).

2.  Remaining characters in the name can be :

      Letters, numbers, and periods, underscore characters.

3. The following are not allowed :

     Space characters are not allowed as part of a name.

     Names can't look like cell addresses, such as A$35 or R2D2

     C, c, R, r -- can't be used as names -- Excel uses them as selection                  shortcuts

4. Names are not case-sensitive. For example, North and NORTH are treated as the same name.

1)      Create a Name range using Name Box- the following image

2)      From Name Manager-Define Name - the following image

3)      By Mouse right click option - the following image

4)      You can create well structure name range from name manager –create from a selection of following image :
